Our founder Joshuan Calvin began training in the martial arts in 1983 at a local youth center called the shelter
house located on Chicago's south side, he trained in the art of ninjutsu and spent as much time as possible
learning all he could, subsequently he became one of his instructors favorite students and earned a Jr black belt
at the tender age of 11 yrs old. He continued his training in 1985 after moving across town under Shihan Larry
Tankson, were he learned shuri and shorin ryu karate. In 1995 he was introduced to a little known martial art
called 52blocks by a relative who was well known for his street fighting skills. What he was shown blew him
away, it was like nothing he had ever seen before and totally changed his understanding of combat and what
martial arts was really about were as he had come to realize (or so he thought) that many of the techniques he
had learned from so called traditional martial arts proved to be ineffective on the street, (or so he thought) this
art was extremely affective and was developed for close quarter situations he learned all he could of the system
and used it to further enhance the arts he had already learned, but it would be several years before he would
come to fully appreciate what the 52 was all about. In 1997 Founder Joshuan Calvin moved to Michigan city
Indiana were he began training in Kaju kuntao and jeet kun do he would continue to study in the art (combat
philosophy) created by Bruce Lee and kaju kuntao for the next 3 yrs earning a black sash in both arts. In 2000
he moved to Chicago and started a home remodeling company, this was a period of time were he did little formal
training as he spent most of his time building his company. In 2002 an event took place that would forever
change his life and compelled him to develop the principles of Eternal circle and found the Eternal circle society.
It happened on a cold February day for reasons unknown he was brutally attacked by a dozen or so men,
cornered and out numbered this was the moment he had trained for all those years, he was now in a fight for his
very survival. Fist and feet began flying from all directions, overwhelming any  attempts to block, as he tried to
kick and punch his way out of the crowd he found it nearly imposable to use any of the techniques he had
learned from traditional karate as it required distance (or so he thought) to be affective and he had none,
meanwhile he is taking blows from head to toe from every angle when he realized that he was moments from
death, suddenly it all became clear to him, all the training, the flashy moves the acrobatic kicks none of it meant
squat!! All that mattered was his survival, at that moment he remembered the art he learned from his uncle
52blocks having nothing to lose he began using the principles and techniques, he stopped fighting from the
mind and began fighting from his spirit and his will and to his amazement the crowd began to thin out, some from
injuries some from the shock at what they saw happening. Now suddenly he had the room he needed to use
other techniques from  traditional arts he had studied, within moments he had incapacitated some of his
attackers and gained enough respect from those remaining to give him the pause he needed to make an escape
as he promptly did. Safe with time to heal his wounds and contemplate what had happened he became
overwhelmed because now and only now did he understand anything he had learned over the years budo was
not for sport-n-play nor hobby, budo is about survival and only about survival, it is not merely a compilation of
moves and techniques but rather a spirit and law of nature your art must become part of you! Merely an
extension of your spirit and mind. Instead of seeing or anticipating an attack then thinking of a technique and
having the body respond which takes to long to be affective, let your response, your technique flow from the
center of your being merely need and it obeys that is budo at its purest.
